Thank you for visiting the Stroll® Traverse City web site’s business listings!

You are sure to find useful information here as you "stroll" through the categories of downtown businesses. Simply click on the links at left to to get started. Traverse City has so many wonderful shops, restaurants and other businesses, there is little doubt you will find what you are looking for and more!

Did you know that for every $100 you spend at a locally owned business, nearly $75 of it goes right back into the local and state economies? Wages to employees, goods and services purchased by the business owner, taxes, and of course their own living expenses, such as groceries and gas, which they obviously buy locally. How much of that $100 you spend at a large chain store would you guess goes back to the local economy? Only about $15.*

Small business are much more likely to give goods and services and time to local charities and schools, as opposed to their larger, nationally run counterparts. And many small operations are making a bigger effort to buy and sell Made in America products, which is certainly becoming more and more important to everyone the quality of products made over seas is so questionable.

Does this matter? Does it really make a difference to anyone? Yes, it does. Buying local spurs local economy by keeping our dollars here, in our community for schools, parks, and so much more. Busy downtowns are nice places to eat and shop and visit, but only because people do it. Consider, too, the typical knowledgeable and friendly service you receive at small businesses, as well as the fact that they would like you to return to their business; they appreciate you. Plus, these people are your neighbors.

When you think about all of this, is it worth the small amount of money you might save by shopping online or at a big box store?

Since you are already here, hopefully you will soon be on your way downtown! Please take a friend. Send them this link. Explore old stores and keep an eye out for new ones. Grab a bite to eat; take in a movie at the State. Not only that, but there are many service-orientated businesses downtown, like lawyers, insurance and finance offices and banks. Discover what a great downtown Traverse City is!
